The MATLAB Reservoir Simulation Toolbox (MRST) is an open-source reservoir simulation framework developed by SINTEF and widely used in academic research. This session will introduce MRST and discuss its role as a flexible, open-source alternative to commercial reservoir simulators. The talk will highlight MRST’s modular design and its capabilities for rapid prototyping, physics development, and reuse of key components such as gridding and upscaling. Dr. Aslam will also share practical experience using MRST for grid generation and upscaling, as well as for history matching and well control optimization. The session will conclude with a short hands-on demonstration showing how to build and run a basic reservoir simulation in MRST from scratch.
