S Square November Insider!

´Æî

Dear S Square family,

I hope you are having a good start to the month! We are now counting down the semester, and everyone seems busy (or pretends to be busy to relax and re-energize, right ?!).

WELCOME, new S Square members. If you would like to get more involved in making an impact, please join our What's App group here.

I have some great news and updates to share with you. Let's go!

1. S Square Ideas into Action

It is a moment to celebrate and push the momentum of positive change forward! Our proposal to the Global University Climate Forum (GUCF) by Yale University has been accepted. GUCF had over 160 applications from more than 40 countries, so the process was quite competitive and the cohort will be remarkably diverse.

What's exciting is that this opportunity puts S Square on the spotlight, both locally and globally. Successfully completed projects will be included in a publication to be issued during the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP26) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Glasgow, Scotland. Ana is facilitating communication with the KAUST leadership to optimize our impact.

It will take all of our collective efforts to make this a successful journey of change. Please check the proposal here

2. Food Contest Winners!
We launched 3 contests as part of the Week of Awareness, Are We What We Eat? and we received amazing submissions. Check them out here

Congratulations to the winners!  Justine and I had fun delivering the prizes. Here are some photos.

3. Almost one year!

´Äë

I cannot believe how far we have come as a society. S Square will be one year old on Nov 18th. I am excited about our yearly book (Zainab is our book designer this year, Hurray!). Please have your touch on creating good memories by completing this form or sending your photos to eman.alhajji@kaust.edu.sa.

4. Composting Campaign with Edamah
I am proud that we have Zulma as S Square representative working with Edamah and KAUST on planning the educational campaign on compositing. It is a social preparation for launching the first composting facility ever in Saudi Arabia next year. Go Zulma! If you have ideas or want to be involved, please email zulma.lopezreyes@kaust.edu.sa.

5. Become the next S Square officer, elections are now open!
Do you want to have a greater impact? do want to sharpen your skills in leadership? do you want to engage with a diverse team and expand your network? Please view S Square constitution here

Apply to be an S Square officer now. Applications are due by November 20th

6. Vote for the topic of the next debates

Choose from the topics and suggest yours, enlist to be a debater, or just show your interest to discuss certain themes! Please fill this short form if you have not done so already.

´æÑ

Debates will be held every month. Once we have at least two debaters (to cover pro- and contra positions) for any of the listed topics, we will contact them and accommodate for a comfortable date and time. The structure of debate is very flexible; we take care of the organization, you - consolidation of opinion on the matter!

7. Movie Night this weekend!

´ô¢´ì┐
Join us this Saturday, November 7th in Auditorium 2&3 to watch the documentary David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet. Please reserve your seat by registering on campus connect.

It was a long email. I hope you enjoyed it. I would like to end by saying that " we are the ones we have been waiting for. We are the change we seek!"

Much love,
Eman Alhajji
